We both bought property during the pandemic. Armed with hefty mortgages and big Pinterest-board dreams, we set about turning our blank canvases into happy homes. But there was a problem.
Mark got frustrated spending weeks trying to get tradespeople out to quote for his home projects. His record for getting ghosted climbed higher than his days on Tinder. DIY soon became the only option, but getting everything he needed in the Welsh countryside was easier said than done.
I struggled too. Even changing a lightbulb was a challenge and I thought it was about time I learnt some practical skills. After spending hours scrolling YouTube for videos that were actually relevant (and not of a man in his 60s in Mississippi with a tool shed and truck) I was feeling more lost than when I started.
Why are home projects so hard? This problem was too close to home (pun intended) - for us not to solve. So we set out to build a new type of DIY platform for the next generation of doers.
With Roomix we want to remove the stress of planning, shopping for and doing home projects - and maximise that sense of joy when a project is complete. Because practical skills & happy spaces are for everyone and home is really where you put the heart in.

We know that furniture is serious family business. Our furniture is the backdrop for the movie nights, the makeshift dens, the homework, the work-from-home, the catch-ups-with-wine, the dinner parties, the birthday parties, the tantrums, the bedtime stories and the ‘hooray, you’re home!’s. Each notch or scratch, a part of the mosaic of family life.
We need our furniture to fit our space, our taste and our multifaceted family needs. Yet, too often we’re caught between poor quality, throwaway products or painfully pricey tradespeople.

Our Workshops
We partner with expert joinery workshops to custom make each piece of Roomix furniture.
Once you have selected your design, entered your size requirements and picked your style, our joiners get to work. They cut and finish each piece to your specification, package it up and send it to you. Every Roomix piece is made just for you, on demand, so nothing goes to waste.

Our Community
Since day one our community has powered everything we do at Roomix. Our creators and customers have sent us ideas, feedback and more beautiful before and after pictures than could fill a family album. In our early days we ran a crowdfund and a huge number of our earliest community members became partners in Roomix too. Something we could not be more grateful for.
Our Anti-Landfill Commitment
Roomix products are high quality and durable. Not throwaway. We are determined that none of our products should end up in landfill.
If you grow out of your Roomix item then we will collect it from you for free to reuse the parts or donate it to a new home.
Where it all began...
Shona and Mark started Roomix in 2022. As first time property owners, we set out to make some personal touches to our homes without wanting to foot the bill for expensive tradespeople. Only there was a problem!
We came up against an industry that felt like it was either too expensive, too difficult to navigate or unsustainably produced.
We began by offering our ever-popular Wall Panelling Kits, expanded in our shelving range and then at just about the time our first Head of Growth (Mark’s son Otto) was born we expanded in our children's range as well.
