Why Roomix Made Version 2 of Their Toddler Bed - The Transition Collection

Why Roomix Made Version 2 of Their Toddler Bed - The Transition Collection

Why did Roomix make a version 2 of their best-selling toddler bed?

Why We Created Version 2 of Our Best-Selling Toddler Bed

When we launched our original toddler bed, parents loved the low-to-the-ground design and the Montessori-inspired freedom it offered. It was a strong starting point, but we always knew there was room to go further.

As families lived with the bed day to day, we heard what could be better. Assembly was fiddly and time-consuming. The construction wasn't as sturdy as parents needed for the realities of toddler life. And when families wanted to adapt or extend the bed as their child grew, it wasn't straightforward. Real feedback showed us where we needed to go next.

We teamed up again with designer Stephen Clark, a dad to energetic twin boys to build version two of the Roomix Toddler Bed. The brief was clear: keep the Montessori principles parents loved, but build something fundamentally sturdier, simpler to assemble, and designed to grow with the family. Version 2, The Roomix Transition Toddler Bed, isn't a minor update. It's a ground-up redesign shaped by the families who use our beds every day.

Passed the toddler test: The Transition collection went through real-world testing with families before launch. We asked, listened, and built accordingly.

Every Transition Bed piece is made to order by expert joiners using solid FSC-certified pine and child-friendly, water-based waxes. It's fully British Standards compliant, and it's designed to grow with your family through our new Grow With Me add-ons.

What Changed? The Version 2 Improvements Parents Asked For

The most noticeable difference is how the bed feels. The Transition Bed is constructed from solid pine throughout and is noticeably sturdier and more robust. This is a bed built for real toddler life: the climbing, the jumping, the everyday wear and tear.

Assembly was one of the biggest pain points with Version 1. It wasn't easy to put together and the process could be frustrating, especially after a long day. The Roomix Transition Bed arrives largely pre-assembled, so the panels simply clip together in minutes. Stephen redesigned the fixings so everything lines up intuitively, even when you're building it after bedtime.

The Roomix Transition Bed is also fully British Standards compliant, giving parents added confidence that the bed meets recognised safety benchmarks. On top of that, we've introduced a whole new range of designs, including a front-on house bed and a central front barrier opening, so families have more choice to suit their space and style.

Built to Adapt: Grow With Me Add-Ons That Evolve With Your Family

The Transition Bed makes it easy to adapt the bed as your child grows, with our Grow With Me add-ons, designed so you can easily add modules as your child grows, without hassle.

Add a house roof for imaginative play. Raise the bed on legs as your child gets older. Add drawers for storage when you need it. We've also introduced new designs, including a front-on house bed and a central front barrier opening, giving families even more flexibility in how the bed fits their home.

Built from solid FSC-certified pine and crafted by expert joiners, Version 2 handles everyday toddler life with ease. Water-based waxes keep the finish child-friendly. It's made to be kept, passed down to siblings, not replaced.

The design approach draws on Montessori education principles, which emphasise independence and carefully prepared environments for children.

When Should You Make the Cot-to-Bed Move?

There's no perfect age. Some toddlers climb out at 18 months; others stay happily contained until three. Version 2 supports both, with a low-to-the-ground base and super-sturdy solid pine construction that gives parents real peace of mind.

Common signs include climbing out of the cot, asking for a "big bed", or showing interest in independent sleep. The Montessori-inspired set-up gives freedom to move, while the solid construction and British Standards compliance offer reassurance without feeling boxed in.

Parent insight: "We loved how quickly it went together. The old bed took ages, but Version 2 just clipped into place. And it feels so much more solid. Our son has been climbing all over it and it doesn't budge."

The Roomix Transition Toddler Bed was designed so families can approach this milestone with less anxiety and more flexibility, at a pace that suits their child.

Safe sleep practices remain crucial during this transition. The NHS provides guidance on sleeping safely that informed our design approach.

Research into sleep health in toddlers highlights the importance of supportive environments for child development, underscoring why we've taken such a thoughtful approach to this design.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long can my child comfortably use a Roomix toddler bed?

We designed the Roomix Transition Toddler Bed with Grow With Me add-ons that let you easily add modules as your child gets bigger, such as legs to raise the bed, a house roof for play, or drawers for storage. Built from solid pine by expert joiners, it's made to last across siblings too.

How does the Roomix toddler bed support Montessori principles?

Our low-to-the-ground design is central to the Montessori approach, encouraging your child's independence and freedom to explore their sleep environment. This setup allows them to safely get in and out of bed on their own, fostering self-reliance from an early age. It creates a carefully prepared environment that supports their development.

When is the best time to transition my child from a cot to a Roomix toddler bed?

There is no single "right" age for this milestone, as every child is unique. We often see toddlers ready when they start climbing out of their cot, ask for a "big bed," or show interest in independent sleep, sometimes as early as 18 months. Our Version 2 bed supports this transition with its low base and super-sturdy solid pine construction, offering reassurance for you and your child.

What improvements were made in Roomix Transition Toddler Bed?

The Transition Bed is a ground-up redesign built from solid pine instead of spliced wood, making it significantly sturdier. It arrives largely pre-assembled and clips together in minutes, is fully British Standards compliant, and features Grow With Me add-ons so you can easily add modules as your child grows. We have also introduced new designs including a front-on house bed and a central front barrier opening.

What materials are used to make the Roomix toddler bed?

We craft every Transition toddler bed from solid FSC-certified pine, a significant upgrade from the spliced wood used in our earlier design. Each piece is made to order by expert joiners and finished with child-friendly, water-based waxes. The Transition bed is also fully British Standards compliant, providing a safe sleep space for your little one.

Can the Roomix toddler bed adapt to different room layouts or needs?

Absolutely. The Transition toddler bed features Grow With Me add-ons, making it easy to add modules as your child grows, such as legs to raise the bed height, a house roof for imaginative play, or drawers for storage. New designs like the front-on house bed and central front barrier opening give you even more layout flexibility. We also offer custom finishes to suit your home.
